Last week I introduced this blog series where I'm sharing my favourite Fall inspired DIY recipes.
If you haven't already, read last week's post where I explain what inspired me to create these recipes and share the first round of recipes including a Pumpkin Spice Body Scrub, Body Butter, and a Custom Pumpkin Face Mask.
Let's get started with this week's recipes featuring Cozy Gingerbread Bath Salts, a Gingerbread Body Scrub, and a Gingerbread Body Butter.
Cozy Gingerbread Bath Salts
Combine everything in a large bowl
Transfer to an air tight container
2 Cups Epsom Salts
5-10 Drops Ginger Essential Oil*
3-8 Drops Cinnamon Essential Oil*
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
1/4 tsp Cloves
*You can opt for spices instead of essential oils. Your salts will be a little messier in the tub, as the spices don't completely dissolve. Use 2 tsp ginger and 1 tsp cinnamon.
Hot baths are really important to me as it's a way for me to take care of my physical body and my emotions.
Holiday bath products (even the natural ones) are often a little pricey and can contain weird ingredients. So I wanted to create cozy, warming bath salts that smell delicious and are actually good for you. Epsom salts are great for achy bodies and they're wonderful for helping you fall asleep. It's a win win!
Gingerbread Body Scrub
Add all of your ingredients to your blender
Blend until combined
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Organic Coconut Oil
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Ginger
This scrub is absolutely heavenly. Lightly scented, it's so cozy and warming. I love using it on chilly mornings before a cozy day indoors.
The sugar removes dead skin cells while the coconut oil intensely hydrates your skin, so you almost don't need to follow up with the Gingerbread Body Butter (below).
Gingerbread Body Butter
Melt the shea butter and coconut oil**
Pour into a heat resistant container like a glass jar
Allow to cool in the fridge for a few hours until semi solid
Mix in the spices or essential oils
1/4 Cup Organic Shea Butter
1/4 Cup Organic Coconut Oil
3-5 Drops Ginger Essential Oil*
1-2 Drops Cinnamon Essential Oil*
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
*You can opt for spices instead of essential oils. Your body butter will be a bit messier, as the spices don't dissolve completely. But it's cheaper and you'll get a little bit of extra exfoliation! Use 1 1/4 tsp ginger and 1/2 tsp cinnamon.
**You can melt the butter and oil in a microwave for a few seconds at a time. I don't have a microwave so I created a double boiler by boiling a pot of water and placing a glass bowl on top. I put the butter and oil on top and continuously stirred them until they were both liquid and combined well.
This body butter is super hydrating and smells amazing. When used after the body scrub, your skin will be so soft and hydrated and you'll smell like a cookie.
