We're all different, so there isn't one skin or hair care routine that'll work for everyone. But there easy steps to how I choose my green beauty products.
After a year of blogging, I've shared dozens of my beauty routines. But I've never shared how I decide on the products in the first place. So today I'm bringing you the five simple steps I take to decide what products will work for me.
1. Check if the product or brand tests on animals
This is pretty straightforward, as most green beauty brands will clearly state on their packaging that they don't test on animals. But there are dozens of brands that do, so when I'm dealing with products from a brand I'm unfamiliar with, I always double check. I'm not about to support the torture of animals. No thanks.
2. Check for ingredients that I'm allergic or sensitive to
I actually don't have any official allergies. Just a billion sensitivities. I have a really bad gluten sensitivity, so that's one of the first things I check for. I also check for jojoba oil and rose, since both irritate my skin.
3. Check for water
In a lot of products, the first ingredient is water. Brands do this to make their products cheaper, although they'll often market it as more hydrating. But I'm not about to pay for water, so I always skip the watered down products.
4. Check for chemicals
We're at that stage. The more complex stage in picking beauty products. So I started off researching individual ingredients to learn more. But you may not have that kind of time, nor the inclination. And that's okay. So I like to go by the basic guide of "if you can't pronounce it, or you don't know what it is, it's probably not great for you."
That's not the most scientific but it's a simple rule that'll help you cross off a lot of the chemical filled products.
5. Check for your favourite ingredients
I have a few favourite ingredients that I love to find in my beauty products. My skin loves hydrating and soothing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and argan oil. If a product has made it past all of the other checks, and has these ingredients, I'll probably end up getting it. Through trial and error, find out what your skin loves and hates, and that'll help you narrow down the best green beauty products for you!
