I love skincare masks and treatments. They're a simple way to really nourish your skin and give it what it needs. But it can get really overwhelming, with all of the different masks out there. I like to keep five on hand at all times so no matter what my skin needs, I've got it covered.
1. Konjac Sponge
Konjac sponges are a great way to naturally exfoliate your skin without being too harsh. They allow you to remove the dead skin cells so your skin can really absorb the benefits of the rest of your skincare routine.
I use mine two to three times a week in the shower. I find more than that is a little excessive, because I'm also treating my skin to different masks.
My favourites are from Andalou Naturals because they offer so many different kinds that are very natural and effective. They offer a clarifying option, a sensitive skin option, and one for drier, more mature skin types.
2. Sheet Mask or Liquid Exfoliant
A face peel or liquid exfoliant is another way to gently exfoliate your skin. I love to use these when my skin is looking great, but just needs a little boost.
My favourites are again from Andalou Naturals. They've just launched their Hydro Serum Facial Masks that are incredibly nourishing. My skin always looks and feels hydrated, nourished, and glowy post peel. They offer several different kinds for all skin types.
If a sheet mask isn't your thing, go with a liquid exfoliant. These are really easy to use and they're so gentle. Just apply a thick layer, leave for ten minutes, and wipe off with a warm cloth. Andalou Naturals makes one infused with kombucha for lots of healthy probiotics.
3. Hydrating Mask
When you have dry skin, a hydrating mask can work wonders. But even if you don't have dry skin, we all could use an extra dose of hydration in the Winter.
My favourite is from Andalou Naturals, as I've found its the only one that really hydrates my skin. The Coconut Milk Firming Mask uses coconut water and milk, along with prickly pear cactus. The coconut water is filled with mineral and nutrients to really take care of your skin, while the prickly pear cactus has compounds that bind water, so your skin is able to stay hydrated longer.
4. Detoxing + Clarifying Mask
Everyone needs a good mask to help their skin detox. Even if you don't have acne, it's a good idea to use some clarifying clay every now and then.
My favourites are from Herbivore Botanicals. Their masks are the best I've used, which is why I've continued using them for years.
Their Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask is a gentle way to clarify your skin. It's exfoliating, so it removes the dead skin cells and helps with cell turnover, revealing soft and smooth skin.
Their Blue Clay Spot Treatment Mask is another goodie. Using two different kinds of clay, this mask draws out impurities, allowing your skin to heal. You can use it as a spot treatment, or as a full face mask, like I do.
5. Brightening Mask
Brightening face masks are so great during the Winter or when your skin is looking a little dull. Mine does often, as it's pretty finicky.
So I always reach for the Herbivore Botanicals Brighten Mask. It's one of the few masks that actually works to brighten your skin. It uses fruit extracts to gently exfoliate along with clay and rice powder to draw out impurities.
What are your favourite masks and treatments?
Until next time,
